Today, Clark County School District Superintendent Dwight D. Jones released the following statement regarding Governor Sandoval’s decision to extend sunsetting taxes to hold education funding steady:

“I commend Governor Sandoval for making the tough decision to shield education’s already stretched budget from further reductions. Having the assurance of stable funding allows us to continue moving forward with our agenda to reform the nation’s fifth largest school district. While these decisions are hard to make in these tough economic times, the people of Nevada should know educating the youth of this state is an investment in our future economic recovery.

“These are challenging economic times for our district. We have our share of financial uncertainty with teacher contract negotiations at a standstill, but it’s my hope that with Governor Sandoval’s leadership, we can avoid any further cuts in state funding and continue on the path to reform and increased academic achievement to prepare the next generation of Nevadans for college and the workforce.

“Our children are our best investment and will no doubt provide an excellent return.”
