Support legislation that would develop a long range plan for adequate and stable revenue sources for addressing the needs of Nevada’s children. Ensure the maximum funding possible be made available to K-12 public education.
Support of Nevada Plan which ensures every child in K-12 in the state, whether in urban or rural areas, regardless of economic status or geographic areas, will receive the same equitable funding amount.
Support legislation that would require all children have kindergarten experience prior to entering grade one. Nevada PTA supports all day kindergarten programs being fully funded.
Nevada PTA recognizes that changes must be made within the public schools to provide an equitable and excellent educational opportunity for every child. Vouchers, tax credits, deductions and other such funding sources do not provide the means for bringing about improvements in our public schools.
Encourage school districts to view class size reductions as a priority to improve the educational climate of the classroom.
Collaboration with schools and community organizations to educate parents, school administrators and teachers about Autism Spectrum Disorders and support efforts to ensure appropriate diagnosis and treatment of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders and other disorders causing developmental delays.
Support implementation of the Common Core State Standards.
Safety and Welfare is paramount for our children.
Nevada PTA supports policies and/or legislation that provides appropriate traffic controls for school areas that will improve the safety of but not be limited to walking/biking and bus routes to Nevada schools as well as on school grounds
Opposes advertising on school buses and discourages school districts from allowing the use of materials at school which would require students to be subjected to advertising as a condition of the school receiving a donation of money or equipment.
Encourage school districts to establish standards for all school facilities and to establish committees to study the equity of resources among schools and to then bring all school facilities up to established standards.
Nevada needs highly effective teachers in every classroom in order for our children to succeed.
Support legislation for funding to local school districts to provide competitive marketplace salaries to their teachers.
Encourage the Nevada Board of Education and/or the legislature to require teacher education programs to include coursework regarding family engagement.
Arts & Physical Education are key components to a well educated child.
Oppose any legislation that would allow cutbacks in funding which would have a direct effect on the cultural arts in the schools of Nevada; and opposes any action taken by local school districts to eliminate classes in the cultural arts.
Support quality physical education programs K-12 as an essential part of a comprehensive education led by trained and certified teachers.
